THE HOUSE

Greenwich+Docklands International Festival, 2016

The House was a large-scale outdoor spectacle specially commissioned to mark the 400th anniversary of the Queen’s House in Greenwich and its reopening in 2016.

Created and presented by Greenwich+Docklands International Festival in association with Royal Museums Greenwich, the production transformed the historic setting through a combination of hip hop and contemporary dance, large-scale staging, digital projection, original music, narration and pyrotechnics.

Tony Adigun and Lisa Hood choreographed the production, with Avant Garde Dance performing alongside German outdoor theatre company Pan.Optikum.

Written and directed by GDIF Artistic Director Bradley Hemmings MBE, The House featured video design by BAFTA Award-winning Tal Rosner, music by composer Dan Jones and narration from Olivier Award-winning Sharon D. Clarke and Sir Ian McKellen.

Presented on 24 June 2016, the production explored ideas of home, civilisation, migration and belonging, reimagining the Queen’s House as an inclusive house for all people and all time.
