ILLEGAL DANCE

The show blends dynamic contemporary choreography with innovative technical stagecraft to portray the tensions in a society that pits order against chaos, security against freedom, and individualism against collective will.

Director and choreographer Tony Adigun use a synaesthetic blend of movement, music, and design to pull at tangled narrative threads, explore complex character relationships, and expose fragile morality. This technically and artistically innovative production harnesses audio and video to immerse audiences from the moment they enter the building.

Illegal Dance is more than a single theatre production: it is a nexus of stories, people, and places, manifest through a variety of media and art forms, fuelled by an overarching belief in the power of artistic expression in times of division.

The Rule of Seven (Film)

‘Illegal Dance: The Rule of Seven’ explores a future where artistic expression is forbidden by oppressive regimes around the world. It combines dynamic contemporary choreography with innovative technical stagecraft to portray the tensions in a society that pits order against chaos, security against freedom, and individualism against collective will.

The Rule of Seven is an excerpt, the first installment from Illegal Dance, the new multi-artform work from virtuoso choreographer Tony Adigun. Sharp movement and spectacular cinematography underpin a compelling story, exploring themes of family, society, power, and agency.
